The entire list of wines produced is made up completely from limited production single varietals from well known vineyards in Edna Valley and Santa Barbara. Both their 2008 Chardonnay, from Edna Valley and the ’08 Pinot Noir from the Wolff Vineyard in Edna Valley are very attractive selections.
The Chardonnay is a fruit forward creation, bright, with tropical fruits exhibiting Meyer lemon-lime citrus; a touch of savory herb and vanilla spices. This is a nearly elegant but certainly well balanced wine. I liked it so much I found myself tasting more white wine than in a long time during a Saturday dinner. It paired perfectly with the food, even though with more alcohol than expected.
The 2008 Pinot Noir is from the famous Wolff Vineyard in Edna Valley. The wine showed cherry and cranberry aromas, with notes of lavender, spice, black tea and red flowers. This was an agile production, different from their 2009, but still with a long finish and well balanced This had less alcohol – 13.8% than the Chardonnay described above.
John Thunen, the long time winemaker specializing in small batch production, continues his successful run.
Other wines from this label include a syrah, and a zinfandel both very good. Check their website for up to date production figures, and current prices.
